TTIFMA in collaboration with NPMC’s Maintenance and Facilities Management team planned, coordinated, and arranged a facility tour at their Head Office, Sea Lots, Port of Spain on April 26, 2023. The objective of the tour was to gain an appreciation of NPMC’s facility and operations for TTIFMA Members and other interested professionals from FM industries.
The tour began with a presentation by Mr. Dave Sankar, Maintenance and Facilities Manager, which gave all attendees an overview of NPMC’s facilities i.e., Head Office and Sea Lots operation - a massive facility which sits on 10 Acres of land. Most of us were not aware that NPMC has a branch in Dominica and is also expanding its Caroni facility location, which is expected to come on stream in 2024.
To the participants, the most exciting highlights of this unique facility tour were the following;
• The massive 4160 Volts power supply and generator system
• Unique automation system - The robot on one of NPMC’s production filling lines
• Road Tank Wagon (RTW) filling area and operation.
Mr. Sankar, facility tour leader, was confident and excited about his work at NPMC and provided a very realistic perspective on some of the challenges faced in maintaining a facility of this size from a practical, physical and financial point of view. The Team was very open to answering our questions and receiving feedback. The value of having “fresh eyes” view the facility was seen as a key element which all of us as FM professionals can appreciate.
TTIFMA would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to NPMC for facilitating us with this very successful facility tour. The staff at NPMC was very welcoming and accommodating to TTIFMA and we genuinely appreciate the cross-functional support received for the tour.
TTIFMA thanks NPMC for supporting the Chapter’s mission by conducting this facility tour for the benefit of our membership. It was interesting to note that we all experience similar issues as FMs, so having these tours and engaging with fellow FM's can really be beneficial from a networking perspective. Sharing ideas, issues and solutions has the potential to make everyday challenges less difficult.
